Terms of use
The basis on which Online Wise is provided. The important part is what the guidance is not.
What this site is
Online Wise is an independent UK online-safety information service. It publishes general guidance about apps, games and online services and about the issues that arise from their use.
What it is not
The content here is general information, not professional advice for your situation. It is not legal, medical, psychological or safeguarding advice, and it is not a substitute for talking to a qualified professional who knows the facts.
Online Wise is not a government, regulator, police, NHS or charity service. It has no affiliation with, and no endorsement from, any organisation it links to. Where we link to another organisation, that link is provided because it may be useful — it is not a referral, an endorsement or a guarantee.
We do not monitor, receive or act on reports about specific children or incidents. If you need someone to act, use the Get help page.
Accuracy and review
Online safety information goes out of date quickly. Every article shows when it was published, when it was last updated and when it was last reviewed, and articles are reviewed on a rolling schedule.
Even so, apps and services change without notice and without telling us. A setting described here may have moved, been renamed or been removed since the article was last reviewed. Where we are not certain about a factual claim, the article says so rather than guessing.
Your use of the site
You may read, print and share the content here for personal, educational or professional use. You may quote from it with attribution to Online Wise and a link to the page you took it from. You may not present it as your own, resell it, or reproduce it in bulk without asking us first.
Availability
The site is provided as it is. We do not promise that it will be available without interruption, and we are not liable for any loss arising from it being unavailable or from reliance on something published here. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
