Privacy

What Online Wise collects, what it deliberately does not collect, and what you can ask us to do.

The short version

Browsing Online Wise does not require an account, and we do not run analytics, advertising or third-party tracking scripts. There is no cookie set on a normal visit. We do not sell, rent or share personal information, because we do not collect any to share.

The only personal information we hold is what you choose to send us by email, and the email address of administrators who sign in to the editorial system.

What is collected automatically

Like any website, our hosting provider records standard server logs — the requested page, the time, a truncated IP address and the browser's user-agent string. These are used to keep the site working and to investigate abuse, and are retained by the host for a short period.

We do not combine these logs with anything else, and we do not use them to build a profile of individual visitors.

If you email us

If you write to hello@onlinewise.org.uk, we hold your message and address for as long as it takes to deal with it, and then delete it. We use it only to reply.

Please do not send details about a specific child or an ongoing incident. We cannot act on them, and we would rather not hold them. The Get help page lists organisations that can.

If you are an administrator

Editorial access uses Neon Auth. Signing in sets a single session cookie, and we store the email address of each administrator so we can attribute and review content. This applies only to the small number of people with editorial access, not to visitors.

Children

Online Wise is written for adults and for young people, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because the site has no mechanism for collecting it.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, and to object to how it is used. In practice, the only data we are likely to hold about a visitor is an email you sent us.

To make a request, email hello@onlinewise.org.uk. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
